Thirassia Island – Santorini
The island of Thirassia is located adjacent to Santorini; in fact, it was once a part of it.
The volcanic eruption that occurred at around 1500 BC snapped Santorini off and Thirassia emerged. Nowadays, Thirassia is a virgin island, still untouched by tourism and modern lifestyle.
The island is only 9 sq. km in size and has only 150 permanent inhabitants.
Manolas village is the capital, while other settlements include Korfos, Riva, and Potamos. A walk through villages can also be a wonderful experience, as in front of the houses lie gardens with colorful blossoms.
Manolas boasts tiny picturesque houses painted in various colors.

The virgin beaches and pure nature are the main attractions of this island.
From Manolas, you can hike to the Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin.
Apart from that, there are twenty more churches on the island. A feast to honor Holy Mary takes place every year on September 21st.
Quite a few places are available regarding accommodation in Thirassia. The food in the local taverns is palatable and you can taste it in local taverns and cafes. During the summer, daily boat trips are organized between Santorini and Thirasia.
